Multiple Crises in the Global Economy Hit People’s Livelihood — Analysis of the International Economic System and Proposals for Economic Justice Transformation
Date & Time: April 13th, 10:00-12:00(JST)
Overview:
In the last three years, the COVID-19 pandemic, Russia-the Ukraine war and food and energy shocks amplified inequalities across societies. In developing countries, where the multiple crises reversed decades of poverty reduction and development gains, recoveries stalled amidst rising interest rates, slowing growth, inadequate debt relief and restructuring, an inequitable global tax system, limited access to finance and private flows lacking alignment with development needs. Globally, but especially in developing countries, there is a need to change business as usual and secure policy space to pursue transformative alternatives that foster decent work, and avoid austerity measures.
In this session, in line with policy recommendations from the Economic Justice and Transformation WG, we will raise issues on the four themes of “International Financial Architecture”, “Debt”, “International Tax Architecture”, and “Access to Development Funding Sources.”
